The single biggest mistake families make is trying to drive from Rishikesh to Badrinath in one day. It’s roughly 300 km of mountain road and 10 to 12 hours of driving. For a 70-year-old, that’s exhausting even before the altitude.<\/p>

A kinder plan for parents:<\/p>

  1. Meet in Rishikesh or Haridwar.<\/strong> Parents take a train or flight from their city. You arrive from Delhi. Everyone rests one night.<\/li>
  2. Day 1 of the drive:<\/strong> Rishikesh to Rudraprayag or Srinagar (about 4 to 5 hours). Stop early.<\/li>
  3. Day 2 of the drive:<\/strong> Onward to Joshimath and Badrinath, arriving by early afternoon.<\/li>
  4. In Badrinath:<\/strong> Book at least two nights. Rest on the first evening. Darshan the next morning.<\/li>
  5. The return:<\/strong> Break it again at Rudraprayag or Srinagar.<\/li><\/ol>
